World Cultures and Faiths: Hinduism

Starting with respectful handling and investigation of Hindu faith objects, this workshop will help your children to learn about Hindu beliefs and to compare Hindu worship with their own faiths or special celebrations.

Following the investigation of objects including a Murti (model of a God), a shrine throne, objects used for puja (worship) and symbols such as the Aum sign, the children can take part in a craft activity inspired by the objects. This can be decided by discussion, but could be using clay to make a model of Ganesh (the God who appears as an elephant) or a decorated diva, or making a toran (welcome hanging) using symbols and images special to your students, each student making their own piece which can be assembled to make a whole class toran.
