These silk painted wall panels designed and made by the pupils, enhance Shenton and Abbey Primary Schools respectively. Silk is a very special fabric which is so fine that designs drawn on paper by the children, or designs sourced from copyright free books, can be placed under the silk and traced through using metallic pens, then painted with vibrant silk paints. Special effects can be created using salt grains of different sizes sprinkled onto the wet silk paint. Individual work can be achieved in half a day, or collaborative pieces in one day. This piece was created by members of the public in my workshop at Leicester Mela in 2010.
