Inspiring Art

Inspiring Art

My aim is to empower children and adults in creative practice by using world craft and art objects to inspire fabulous art workshops. I work in a wide range of media and techniques including textiles (felting, collage, weaving, silk painting, junk recycling etc.), mosaics, murals, sculpture, paint techniques, printing and much more! I have worked in many Leicester Primary Schools and with libraries and museums on both long term projects and single workshops, and currently run a series of textile workshops for adults at Wistow Gallery.

In all my workshops, for adults or schools, I try to use objects as a starting point, to inspire participants. I have a wide collection of objects and artefacts from around the world which I use to teach about the rich heritage and culture of the countries and faiths around the world and in Leicester itself, and which also inspire wonderful art workshops and my own textile art.

I am now qualified to deliver Arts Award ‘Discover’ and the accredited ‘Explore’ in your school, and will be setting up workshops at other venues for gifted and talented young people to take their Arts Award independently. Please contact me for details.

I produce a wide range of work for sale, from felting, clothing and knitted textiles, to silk paintings. I also hold creative workshops for adults and children to help them to explore new materials and learn new techniques.

I can come to your group or organisation to deliver a workshop for you on the theme of your choice. Or get together a group of friends and book me to run a felting or free machine workshop in the comfort of your own home.

Murals in the home – I can paint a mural to transform your child’s bedroom wall into a jungle or the ocean floor, paint a folksy tree with birds or copy a picture from a favourite story book, using Dulux emulsion tester pots.

Children’s parties – I can provide an art or craft activity for your child’s party. Activities themed on pirates, faries, halloween or kite making, or for older children, silk painting or felting – contact me to discuss your party theme.

I have twelve years of experience in education, teaching in inner-city Primary schools, wide experience of community arts, adult arts workshops and family learning. I also have ten years of working for the Arts and Museums Service as an Outreach Officer, with the aim of making arts and heritage accessible and engaging for the diverse people and communities of Leicester.

I have always loved the arts, crafts and textiles of India, and have gained so much inspiration from the wonderful textiles and embroideries created by the talented women of Rajasthan and Kutch I have visited.
